Algal bloom is harmful to the environment due to not only their sheer abundance of cells but also toxins produced by cyanobacteria. Accordingly, various studies have been carrying out to kill HAB species. However, the fact that cells broken could result in releasing toxins into the environment. In this study, we propose a comprehensive biological strategy to remove microalgae and degrade toxin by bacteria. A bacterium with strong algal-lytic activity against Microcystis was isolated and classified as Bacillus sp. strain T4 based on 16S rRNA sequence analysis. In approach toward toxin degradation, PCR method to identify genes mlrA, mlrB, mlrC, mlrD was used to screen for microcystis-LR-lytic bacteria. Our study will enable to work towards a complete solution for controlling HAB species bloom and their toxin.
