Wolbachia are intracellular bacteria and have been detected in the collembolanFolsomia candida. The infection of Wolbachia is essential for the reproduction of F.candida. For the basic understanding of their interactions, studies on the relationshipbetween Wolbachia population size and host biological process are important step. However, how Wolbachia population contributes to the biological processes of the F.candida is an area of research rarely known. We therefore examined the Wolbachiapopulation dynamics in F. candida life stages. We found that a rapid increase ofWolbachia occurred within 7 days of F. candia before maturity, and are maintained atreproductive stages. These observations support a role for Wolbachia in thedevelopment of reproduction at maturity stages and F. candida controls the energyallocation to keep the balance of growth rates between host and symbiotic bacteria.
