【Program update, on July 8】Urgent Notice ASME/JSME meetings in Okinawa, the dates will change to July 12 & 13
Dear participants,
We must inform you that a strong typhoon (named Maria) is now approaching Okinawa, the latest weather forecast says. According to the forecast as of this afternoon, July 10th would be the worst, and the Okinawa (Naha) International Airport is very likely to close all day long. In case, please check out the weather forecast by yourself.
Over the last 24 hours, we have intensively discussed how we should re-organize the ASME/JSME meetings in a safe manner. After careful consideration, we have decided that 1) we call off the July 11th meetings; 2) we will condense the ASME/JSME meetings into two days i.e. July 12th and 13th; 3) ASME session originally planned on the 11th will be moved to the 12th and 13th; 4) we will call off any events including mixer that were planned on the 11th.
We understand most of you are planning to fly over to Okinawa on the 10th, the stormiest day. To avoid expected troubles with your original flight, please try to re-arrange your itinerary. We strongly recommend that you would arrive in Okinawa on the 11th evening hopefully after the typhoon is gone. Please contact your travel agency to re-schedule your flight. If you cannot schedule your flight on July 11th, you would be encouraged to fly on the 12th morning. We would be flexible in shuffling sessions and speakers so that if their arrival may delay, we would instantaneously re-arrange the order and slots of their presentations.
We hope all of you will arrive in Okinawa safe and sound. Also please do not hesitate to give up your travel if you cannot figure out the way down to Okinawa in a secure manner. Your safety is our top priority.
Please feel free to contact our e-mail addresses jsme2018@gmail.com (local organizing committee) and kokusai.asme2018@gmail.com (ASME board member).
